• Rajasthan: Five men allegedly kidnap, gangrape 15-year-old girl

    Bikaner: A 15-year old girl was allegedly gangraped by five persons in Hanumangarh district, about 225 kms from Bikaner, police said on Friday.

    The accused abducted the girl from her house in Nukera village on the night of March 20, they said.

    The girl was taken to the house of one of the accused, where she was gangraped, police said. The girl returned home and narrated the incident to her mother who informed elders of the village.

    New Delhi: A team of the SC/ST Commission, which was sent to Chhattisgarh to probe the allegations of sexual abuse of tribal girls in government-run hostels, will be soon filing its report. "We have sent a team to probe the matter in Chhattisgarh," said National Commission for Schedule Castes Vice Chairman Dr Raj Kumar Verka.

    Chandigarh: Cars and two-wheelers in Haryana will now cost more as the state government on Friday decided to hike road tax.

    The state cabinet which met on Friday also decided levying VAT on bidis to discourage consumption. It approved the Transport Department's proposal to revise the existing rates of road tax for the vehicle used for personal purposes, an official release said.

    For two-wheelers costing up to Rs 20,000, the rate of road tax will remain unchanged, which is two per cent. For two-wheelers costing more than Rs 20,000 and up to Rs 60,000, 4 per cent tax would be levied. Similarly, it would be 6 per cent on vehicles costing above Rs 60,000 and up to Rs 2 lakh.
