Oletju Joseph Abhi scored twice as Indian Bank beat RBI 4-1 to reclaim the top spot in the CFA senior division football league at the Nehru stadium on Tuesday. The latter, on the other hand, is yet to earn a point this season.
In the first five minutes, Indian Bank converted one of its two chances. Abhi struck his team’s, and the game’s first goal, when he scored off Jude Felia’s pass from the right. The latter was well supplied by G. Saravanan Kumar on the run. Ifeanyi Nkenchor’s shot, off an Abhi pass from the right, was blocked by the RBI goalkeeper.
RBI, making a number forays in the next 10 minutes, found the equaliser as N. Karimulla propelled a short pass off M. Mukesh into the net.
RBI’s Saravan scored an own goal after Nkenchor intercepted his pass. With the latter catching the goalkeeper off-guard, the ball brushed Saravan and went in.
This, after Nkenchor himself had enhanced his team’s lead with a strike from the right. Indian Bank was 3-1 ahead at the break.
Neither scored nor were there close chances in the 20 minutes after resumption, the exception being Indian Bank’s Romario hitting the cross-bar.
Twelve minutes later came the fourth for Indian Bank as Abhi netted his second.
