Just how did they mistake it for the big snake? The viper has spots that look very similar to that of the python. And as the reptile was quite weak as a result of hibernation, Chonglien Khongsai and Thangam Mang thought it would be a good idea to catch the ‘python’.
After catching it, they informed the local police who in turn contacted the activists in People For Animals. However the activists were taken aback on seeing the photograph of the ‘python’ was posted on WhatsApp. They advised the police and the youths not to go near the viper as it was very poisonous. The viper would be released in the wild, activists said.
