New Delhi: Friday proved to be the coldest day of the year in many parts of North India. In Delhi, the maximum temperature plummeted to the season's lowest of 16.9 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature, however, was 12.4 degrees. The city also experienced rain and a hailstorm. The Met department has predicted more showers on Saturday.
Jaipur, Lucknow and Patna were a couple of degrees warmer at 14 degrees.
The sale of woolens have skyrocketted in Kashmir as the mercury continued to drop. The minimum temperature in Srinagar was 0.7 degrees Celsius. Heavy snowfall led to the closure of a 300-kilometre stretch on the Srinagar-Jammu highway. Doda and Kupwara experienced snowfall and rain as well.

Winter chill grows with rains in North India
In Gulmarg, the temperature was minus 8 degrees Celsius. The Met department expected such conditions to prevail through Saturday.
Similar conditions prevailed in Himachal Pradesh as well. It continued to snow in Shimla, Kufri and Manali while icy winds lashed Lahaul, Spiti and Pangi. Shimla shivered at minus 5 degrees Celsius, while Manali was at 0.2 degrees and Solan was at 1 degree.
