JAIPUR: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will start the launching operation (work for laying the bed of elevated Metro rail tracks) in the first week of September.
General manager (civil), DMRC, Atul Gadgil, said, "The launching operation will start in August and the process of laying the bed will be done by December 2012. Heavy machinery will be used in the launching operation. The DMRC will work from 11 pm to 6 am so that city traffic is not disturbed. This will be a challenge for DMRC to work with heavy machines as roads are narrow." An official said traffic will be diverted for 40 days.
Frequent accidents at Metro sites have delayed the Jaipur Metro Rail project by one month. DMRC project director Lalit Meghnai, said, "After one accident, the project work is stopped for 3-4 four days. Because of the past accidents, work got delayed by a month." He said, "The DMRC will manage time ahead and all civil constructions will be done by December 2012." Once the civil construction is done, the DMRC will start the operational testing such as signals, power, etc.
The DMRC will construct metro station on a single pier for the first time in India. According to DMRC officials, the Mansarovar station will be the first in India to be constructed on middle pier alignment.
Gadgil said, "The DMRC will be using segmental construction technique. We have used the technique due to space constraints."
The DMRC, for the first time in India is constructing the double-deck viaduct for elevated road and Metro track. Gadgil said, "The elevated road was already proposed by the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) on the Ajmer road, where the Jaipur Metro route was also falling. The DMRC has taken up both the works and double-deck viaduct is being constructed. The elevated road height would be approximately seven metres and Metro on this route will run at a height of 20 metres."
The Jaipur Metro in its first phase will come up with 10 trains having four coaches on its 9.5-km route. For passenger convenience, two tracks will be laid with trains running every six minutes. However, during the peak hours, the gap will be of every five minutes.
