  • Hangal died of a cardio-respiratory failure

    AK Hangal died of cardio respiratory failure, a condition he was suffering from but which got aggravated after he sustained a hip fracture on August 13 following fall at his residence. Until Saturday, the actor was critical and kept in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Doctors said
    that Hangal was suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and chronic renal disease, which got aggravated after his fall.

  • Delhi police lathicharge India Against Corruption protesters; Arvind Kejriwal, aides detained again

    NEW DELHI: Hundreds of protesters of India Against Corruption were lathicharged by Delhi Police as they made their second attempt to force their way to 10, Janpath, the residence of Sonia Gandhi and PM's residence.

    Key IAC members Arvind Kejriwal, Prashant Bhushan and Manish Sisodia have been detained by the police again.

    Police opened water canons to stop the protesters at the Tughlaq Road intersection. Several of them were detained and kept at police station for a while.

  • Double-decker train to Jaipur flagged off

     NEW DELHI: Bystanders watched in awe as the red-and-yellow train pulled out of Sarai Rohilla, and then Patel Nagar stations. It was a feat that had been two years in the waiting. But finally, on Friday evening, Northern Railway's first double-decker AC train was flagged off by railway minister Mukul Roy and chief minister Sheila Dikshit under pouring rain.

     
    The Delhi (Sarai Rohilla) to Jaipur train will have 12 coaches in the beginning with 120 seats in each compartment, up from 78 in Shatabdi coaches. But at 4.36m high, it is only 12cm taller than an ordinary train. While 50 of its 120 seats are on the upper deck, 48 are on the lower deck, and 22 are at normal height. The journey time will be four-and-a-half hours for a total of 303km, and the fare has been kept at Rs 327.

    The PM’s planned address to clear his position on the CAG report that alleged Rs 1.86 lakh crore loss in coal block allocations is a part of the UPA government’s strategy to counter the opposition onslaught in Parliament.

Baz Luhrmann was touring India couple of years ago...going all around the country, he dropped in at my office with a friend who did some painting work for me. We just had a casual conversation and he left," Big B told reporters here Wednesday.
