Dehradun, Sept 14: Twelve people died and four others were injured as dozens of houses caved in following a cloudburst in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district today.
A large number of people are feared trapped in the debris and rescue operations have been launched, Disaster Management and Mitigation department officials here said citing initial reports.

Nagpur, Sep 13: A joint team of wildlife and territorial wing officials on Wednesday arrested 10 persons here for selling snake venom illegally worth lakhs of rupees.

The joint team seized 8ml of cobra venom, estimated to be worth Rs 8 lakh. The officials also seized seven live cobras, one chameleon and one grass snake, besides six motorcycles and 14 mobiles from the accused.

In a major breakthrough, Jammu and Kashmir Police has arrested a top militant who is suspected to have provided logistical support to hijackers of IC-814 in 1999 and was operating for the last 25 years in the state.

Mehrajuddin alias Javed, a close associate of United Jihad Council (UJC) chief Syed Salahuddin and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, was arrested during an operation in Kishtwar forest belt, a senior police officer said on Thursday.

Kolkata, Sep 11 (IANS) Ten people have been arrested for allegedly gang-raping a 32-year-old-woman and assaulting her husband in the industrial township of Durgapur in Burdwan district, police said Tuesday.

"We have arrested 10 people of which five have supposedly raped the woman. We are looking for five to six more suspects. They have been produced before a court and we have sought for their custody," Commissioner of Police (Asansol-Durgapur) Ajay Kumar Nand said.

SHIMLA: A total of 34 people, including eight women, were killed when a state roadways bus skidded off the road and fell into a 1,000-foot-deep gorge Monday night in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district, an official said.


All 34 bodies have been recovered, most of them Tuesday morning, from the wreckage of the bus, while six injured people, including conductor Sumir Kumar, have been hospitalised, Deputy Commissioner K.R. Bharti told IANS Tuesday.

A woman heading home after dropping her children to school was shot dead by two unidentified men in Delhi today. The incident happened at around 8 in the morning.

The victim, Meenakshi Rana, was travelling in a rickshaw in Rohini Sector 16, in West Delhi. The men, who were on bikes, shot her five times and managed to escape.

CHITRADURGA: Two primary school students who bunked school were stripped and tied to a tree by their angry parents on the outskirts of Chitradurga on Monday morning.

Darshan, 7, and Ahmed Rian, 8, are studying in class I and II respectively at Vishvabharati primary school in Kavadigarahatti, 3 km from here.

According to villagers, Darshan's grandmother, Gangamma, was angry her grandson didn't attend the school, and subjected him to harsh punishment. Rian's mother, Bibi Aiyasha, followed suit. The guardians reportedly poured buckets of sugary water on the children that attracted an army of ants.
